I just got one of the AFH bayonets. It's in great looking condition, in my opinion. I am having a problem getting it to attach properly to the muzzle of my M1 Garand though. The spring loaded latch won't engage the bayonet lug on the rifle. I don't know if it is the lug, the muzzle (where the bayonet's ring makes contact), or the bayonet itself.

- The newer M1 Garand rifle was darn near perfect from top to bottom the 5 million series had great looks and a truly superb finish. I do mean superb! This included inside and out! On the older weapon there were a few minor rust spots like this sling swivel. The one disappointment was the muzzle/bore of the older M1 Garand barrel.
The Armory Replica's piece is meant to represent a Springfield 1905 16" bayonet, which was one of several bayonets used in WW2 on the M1 Garand rifle. The blade itself is good quality steel and actually comes honed to a fairly sharp edge for both a replica and a real bayonet, which were usually fairly dull.

- This bayonet letter opener measures 6.5", not nearly 10" as description states. The photo indicates a high quality piece. It's not. Unevenly coated w something that easily chips. Was going to give as a gift to an M1 fan as a thoughtful keepsake but that giving this would just be rude. Keep your money.

May 28, 2013 · The Garand was officially adopted by the U.S. Army in 1936. It was a timely move, because five years later we entered World War II. Interestingly, only two companies manufactured the M1 Garand during WWII. Springfield was the original producer, but with war imminent, in 1939 Winchester was also contracted to make the M1.
